How to Setup Hotspot on an iPhone via Control Center?

You can turn your iPhone to a router by using this feature. The basic idea is that your iPhone will get internet from cellular data plan and then transmit it over WiFi so that other devices can use it. You can connect many devices on that internet including Mac, iPad, PC, Apple Watch, iPod Touch and more.

Enabling iPhone Hotspot on iOS 13

  • Open the control center by swiping down from top corner
  • Next, press and hold the icon for Airplace, WiFi, Bluetooth options
  • A new popup will appear, tap on the option ?Personal Hotspot?
  • This will make your convert your iPhone in to Hotspot.

Enabling iPhone Hotspot on iOS 12 & Earlier

  • Open the control center by swiping up from bottom of screen.
  • Next, press and hold the icon for Airplace, WiFi, Bluetooth options
  • A new popup will appear, tap on the option ?Personal Hotspot?
  • This will convert your iPhone in to Hotspot.

Activating iPhone Hotspot Feature from Settings

Some old devices are unable to turn-on Hotspot from Control center. Therefore you have to activate iPhone tethering from settings.

  • Launch Settings app and then find & tap on ?Personal Hotspot?
  • This will make your hotspot discoverable. However, to customize the access to your WiFi hotspot you can use further options in iOS 13.
  • Like when you enable the option ?Allow Others to Join? you are able to set a password. Then only people having that password can use your hotspot.

Turn-on iPhone Tethering on Pre iOS 13

  • Lauch Settings App and then find & Tap on ?Mobile Data/Cellular Data? or in some versions ?Mobile/Cellular?
  • Find the option ?Personal Hotspot? and enable it using the toggle button to make it green.
  • Next, iOS will ask to turn-on WiFi or bluetooth to start sharing the WiFi Hotspot.
  • You can also setup a iPhone Hotspot password by tapping on the option ?WiFi Password?

How do I Connect to an iPhone HotSpot?

You can simply connect to an iPhone hotspot from the WiFi connection. Just turn-on your WiFi just like you normally do and then find the name of WiFi Hotspot tap on it and enter the password. However, if the iPhone Hotspot is configured with family sharing then only people identified as family member can access that hotspot and no need for password.

iPhone hotspot will only ask for password when you have setup the password for access. You can also keep your iPhone Hotspot as open, but we will not recommend that as it is not secure way and can eat up your cellular data if too many people connect with hotspot.
